Lumaa reviewed Towards Happiness by Feldup 23h

9.0

A step forward since his last LP — I got the chance to listen to Towards Happiness early, thanks to Talitres sending a few records out early. First of all, without even talking about the music itself, the art direction on this is even better than *Stared at from a Distance*, the music production has upgraded by at least 100 times. Now talking about the music, a soft intro is new with Feldup, and goes directly to a good side A, nothing more particular to point out on this. But on side B, I was surprised by the first track *Take Your Time*, because it doesn’t sound like something he would do. And it sounds amazingly good, you can hear that this type of sound has already been mastered. Then you go to the second track *Clothes on the Ground / Melting*, and then it feels like listening to a Xiu Xiu song. This song makes you feel like you’re walking through hell, until you arrive at the end of *Towards Happiness*, which kinda brings you back into a small peaceful world, so that you’re fully prepared to go back down with *One and the Same*. Overall, I think you can vividly hear the Xiu Xiu inspiration that Feldup has put into this album (especially on side B), while also keeping his previous alt rock style from *Stared at from a Distance* (especially on side A), while also adding more originality from both sides into side C and D (respectively *Towards Happiness* and *One and the Same*). If you like rock, or Xiu Xiu, and that you like feeling emotions, you definitely have to try this album out.
