One of my favourite albums, and Gram Parsons is my favourite artist. Dark end of the street is in my opinion the best cover version of all time. A very influential album for the alt country movement, with some great songs, from Hot Burrito#1, one of my favourites, to Sin City, kind of their signature song. The cover and nudie suits are great too! A document of its time to, with the draft dodging ‘My Uncle’ and very 60s vibe!

I genuinely think this album is a masterpiece. I only discovered it a couple of days ago and was devastated to find this morning that the band ceased in 2022. The comparisons with Band of Horses are for me a little silly (I love Band of Horses) in that the songs and melodies at least on this album are more complex for me, though there is definitely moments when can hear it in the voice. Every song is great, and whilst there are moments that are too sickly sweet, the songcraft, performance and lyrics are fantastic throughout. They really did merit more success!

Their next album is better, which weirdly doesn’t seem to be on here. Don’t think the songs are as strong on this.
