Charli XCX: BRAT (2024)

BRAT by Charli XCX is many people’s introduction into electropop music. Electropop is a form of hyperpop that uses distinct fuzzy and low-frequency synthesizer style. BRAT manages to create a club atmosphere that still holds dramatic weight.

This a 9/10 because the beats are abrasive and euphoric, but underneath lays tension about relevance, insecurity, and identity. Tracks bounce between bratty bravado and deprecating honesty. Charli will sound invincible on one track, then admit she’s spiraling in the next. That emotional duality gives this album meaning beyond just a fun party record.
