Blue Island feels like Ravyn Lenae letting herself explore without worrying about fitting into one box. I really like how she mixes R&B with ’80s pop, new wave, indie rock, and electronic sounds while still keeping her airy vocals at the center. “Handle,” “Sew Me Back Together,” “Familiar Dreams,” and “Saturday Night” are some of my favorites. It’s definitely different from HYPNOS and Bird’s Eye, but I appreciate that she’s willing to take risks and grow instead of making the same album twice.
