Salad Days
“Mac DeMarco's second full-length isn’t a departure from its predecessor so much as a richer, increasingly assured refinement. At its best, it's an outstanding crystallization of his gifts, the real-talk advice of Jonathan Richman with a far more accessible poetic dreaminess.”
2
“On his second release of 2012, the young singer-songwriter writes about life-- both the heavy moments and the mundane ones-- with economy and newfound grace. He has a knack for building songs where the realness of his subject matter lies just below the surface.”
Guitar
“Like a late summer harvest, Mac DeMarco yields some of his most mature, sweet and ripe fruit on his most recent album. Written, recorded and mixed entirely by DeMarco, Guitar is a moving personal portrait of an artist navigating the realities of life in his mid-30s: "I think Guitar is as close to a true representation of where I'm at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper," he remarked i”
Salad Days
“**💭 Thoughts:** *Salad Days*, Mac DeMarco’s second official studio album, released in 2014, has the Canadian singer-songwriter embracing the sound he established throughout *2*, his first studio album, however this time around, he makes an effort to create a more refined, cohesive listening experience. His attempt most certainly pays off, creating, in my opinion, one of, if not, the best album in his catalogue—a highly dreamy, nostalgic, and intimate record. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) “In contrast to other people’s takes on this album, I’d say there is hardly a skip all throughout. I just don’t know if it feels right to give it a perfect 10. Although, I love this album and would say it is one of my favourites from the last 12 years!”
This Old Dog
“This is definitely on my vinyl wishlist, it's such a beautifully melodic album. Moonlight on the River, Watching Him Fade Away, One More Love Song, Still Beating, For the First Time, My Old Man... like damn, it’s banger after banger. No skips too.”
