“IGOR is easily one of the best breakup albums of the decade.”
“Tyler, the Creator wants you to listen to his new album. No, we mean really listen. “No distractions,” he instructed fans in an all-caps social media post the evening before ‘IGOR’s arrival. “No checking your phone, no watching TV, no holding convo; [focus your] full attention towards the sounds where you can form your own opinions and feelings towards the album.” In an age where we consume a cop”
“Tyler, the Creator’s sixth album is impressionistic and emotionally charged, the result of an auteur refining his style and baring more of his soul than ever before.”
“Ever since Tyler, the Creator left his fictional therapist’s office at the end of 2013’s Wolf, he’s become a radically different person. Largely gone are the childish hijinks that accompanied Odd Future’s rise to infamy. His violent imagery and controversial homophobic lyrics following suit soon after. Beginning with the Death Grips-inspired chaos of 2015’s Cherry Bomb, a record that toned down t”
“Tyler, the Creator always said he didn’t want to be a rapper. Leading the generation-defining rap group Odd Future didn’t stop the young Los Angeles radical from regularly declaring that a career as a traditional MC would be a lousy fit. There have been explorations into other creative realms: screenwriting, fashion, film scores, app development and singing (he once said he was looking to Isaac Ha”
“**💭 Thoughts:** *IGOR* is singer-rapper-producer Tyler, The Creator’s fifth studio album, released two years after *Flower Boy*, his mainstream breakout LP. This record has Tyler taking an almost entirely new route, shifting away from the warm, rap-focused sound of *Flower Boy* and moving toward a more synth-heavy, distorted alt-R&B and experimental pop sound while still maintaining the core elements of his sound. It’s a great, consistent, emotional album, with no skips. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) IGOR’S THEME 🔵 2.) EARFQUAKE 🔵 3.) I THINK 🔵🥉 4.) EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING ⚪️ 5.) “This is an album. An incredible one to be precise and I cannot get enough of it. IGOR is widely considered one of, if not the best album by Tyler, The Creator and I couldn't agree more. I didn't know much about Tyler before listening to this album and ohhhh boyyyy am I more than glad that this was my first listening of a record from him; it was such a wild experience. I will admit, I shed some tears, danced through those tears and teared through those dances. Long story short, this album got me very wet (with tears). Top 3 Standouts: - IGOR'S THEME (don't hate i just love this okay) - GONE, GONE / THANK YOU - WHAT'S GOOD Worst Tracks (Not necessarily terrible): - I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE - A BOY IS A GUN - EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING i will be needing this on vinyl for sure”
“A beautiful record that creates a heavy emotional narrative, which is masterfully hidden behind experimental work that adds introspection and psychedelic elements. At its core, IGOR tells a story about a love triangle where Tyler plays as a desperate lover clinging to someone who doesn’t want him. Across the tracklist, we move from infatuation (EARFQUAKE) to bitter acceptance (GGTY). My favorite aspect of this album is how Tyler manages to paint this picture without being over explanatory, his lyrics are often simple, but emotionally raw and delivered perfectly. I give this mid to high 9/10, which is incredible coming from a guy who isn’t a huge fan of Tyler, The Creator.”
“Tylers best album to date. Going in with low expectations, this album blew me away. I remember a friend saying he listened to it non stop after a breakup and I never understood why til now. It’s a masterpiece of a breakup album in terms of lyrics from Tyler and the production matched with it is absolutely perfect. Top songs are ‘EARFQUAKE’ ‘RUNNING OUT OF TIME’ ‘A BOY IS A GUN*’ ‘ARE WE STILL FRIENDS’”
““How come you the best to me? I know you the worst for me” “Exactly what you run from you end up chasing” The majority of this album focuses on the “screaming internal, yet nonchalant external”. Keeping collected on the outside when in reality you are begging and craving for that change. He specifically speaks on love, friendships, and this never satisfied want for happiness.”
“The most sonically interesting album I’ve heard in recent memory, unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. Tyler proves he is the singer, rapper, producer extraordinaire that he set out to be. Favs: EARFQUAKE, I THINK, RUNNING OUT OF TIME, NEW MAGIC WAND, A BOY IS A GUN, GONE, GONE / THANK YOU/ ARE WE STILL FRIENDS? Meh: none”
“Songs like I Don’t Love You Anymore and New Magic Wand explode with an overwhelming tone that conveys Tyler’s raw frustration. While songs like I Think and A Boy Is A Gun explore more curious and infatuated emotions. Overall, one of the greatest breakup records OAT.”
“ALBUM #001 • REVIEW / RATING ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✦ IGOR’S THEME ✦ GONE GONE / THANK YOU ✦ RUNNING OUT OF TIME ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Really good album all around, basically perfect conceptually and production wise is amazing. My favourite Tyler record and it’s so good.”
