“Reviewing 2026 projects: Project: #017 Title: EXPERIMENTAL RAP Artist: JPEGMAFIA I have very mixed feelings about this album, I know it's meant to intentionally sound annoying, intense, messy, chaotic, uncomfortable, and a difficult listen for the listener, but it also feels like it tries to gravitate into purposely being a mess and trying to be experimental rather than trying to make good music (not trying to say the album's bad). Definition of music for people with trained ears. Also doesn't feel like an album that many would go back to, even though it's probably intended to be like that, God knows what JPEGMAFIA's intentions truly are with this. The album's journey is completely unique compared to anything else in the music industry, with the tracklisting flowing like each song's structures, loose, uncoordinated and abrupt, and that is my favourite thing about this album, otherwise it's a pretty difficult listen. Might be better after a couple listens for me though but at the moment it doesn't feel like something I would come back to, but I can say the second half does feel a lot better to listen to. Also The 1st Amendment gotta be dealt with how you make a song about Charlie Kirk 😭. FAVOURITES: New Era, Lights, babygirl, No Strippers In Heaven, ¥ (Yen) LEAST FAVOURITES: $ (Money), head, Meet the Dealers, TSAR BOMBA, The 1st Amendment Simplified rating: 5/10”
“Some of the tracks are REALLY good. Babygirl, Burning Hammer, Ghost of Emmit Till, Valentines Freestyle… while everything else is tolerable… or straight up Ear rape. Or absolute rave earrape. I would maybe ACT like this would good… at a rave… but I’m listening to that type of music on the regular. No disrespect to any sort of music genre. But for some reason JPEGMAFIA is sort just… surface level experimental in what’s to be called ‘EXPERIMENTAL RAP?’, … where did all of the experimental stuff go? Like can you call yourself experimental when you use THE SAME FLOW EVERY TRACK? I’m serious. Every song (besides a few) have the same flow and pace. I feel like he just took I LAY MY LIFE DOWN FOR YOU scrapped instrumentals and some sort of IDM producers rave pack and did it all in one night with maybe a notebook of lyrics. Never have I seen JPEGMAFIA, my beloved Devon Hendryx… less creative than ever. But still I’ll say this again. There ARE a few good tracks. Go atleast try them.”
“Normally am a JPEG fan but this was hot garbage in my opinion. Only song that I liked was Pop this heat. It felt like I was listening to a Ken Carson or Playboi album. Granted they sometimes have hits in between the screaming but this was just bullshit in my opinion.”
“this shit genuinely made me feel sick from anger from hearing this fucking bullshit on my first day of the weekend. Fuck you peggy”
