Last year, UK singer/songwriter/producer Joe Flory killed off his synth-pop project Primary 1 with the digital-only LP Other People. Flory's got a new project now, Amateur Best, and on February 13, Double Denim (the label partly run by Pitchfork contributor Hari Ashurst) will release a 7" single from Amateur Best, "Be Happy" b/w "The Wave". The project has a conceptual bent-- its songs are based on fictional "sometime London DJ, latent alcoholic and lifelong amateur" James Best, whose trials and tribulations are outlined by an accompanying comic book (illustrated by Flory) that will be packaged with the 7".
