A Throne Without A King, out January 24 on Hydra Head, is a collaborative album by forward-thinking Southern U.S. black metal experimentalists Pyramids and Horseback. The collection opens with an individual song by each artist before easing into the 45-minute title track, a hissing mass of dark ambience. The 13-minute second portion offers a look at the composition's various ingredients, including clean and harsh vocals, white noise, and the surprising beauty buried in the swamp.
