As Rhye readies their second album, the Los Angeles group has drip-fed us new songs. “Please” and “Summer Days,” ​both released in July, are ​heavy and measured, natural extensions of the seductive, soporific electro-soul​ served on their​ ​2013 debut album, Woman​. But the latest single, “Taste,” is a subtle shift in gears. Swapping brooding melancholia for breezy flirtatiousness, it’s a hungry-eyed love song that’s all about the grooves.​

​It begins like another lo-fi bedroom cut, with Mike Milosh’s androgynous, breathy tenor ​melting into ​muted digital drums. But staccato tambourines and plucky synths lift it into something sweet and swayable. ​“One more time for my taste/See me fall from your eyes to your waist,” he coos, begging his lover for more. “Will you love me this way? I’m dancing with my eyes closed.” Electric piano and funk guitar supply most of the rhythmic muscle while synths, strings, and woodwinds flutter in and out of the high end. It’s busy but not cluttered, sexy but not serious​. ​Shortly before the song ends, all the elements ​suddenly ​surge together before ​dissolving in​to​ a ​​shimmering ​haze. It's a satisfyingly climactic ending to a track designed to tease.
