There's something about the unaffected clarity of Denmark's Broken Twin-- 24-year-old Majke Voss Romme-- that rings true straight away: the tremor in her proud voice, sure as an arrow in contrast to the lonely pedal steel caws that arc throughout the song, as she sings of a break-up shivering down lonely spines, stark in the moon's reflection, over a humble, clanky piano line. Intriguingly, she's currently recording her debut album with Tindersticks' Ian Caple, a man who definitely does not wear mournfulness as mere make-up.
