Nautically speaking, Wooden Shjips are like the the Flying Dutchman, the fabled ghost ship that can never port and is sentenced to sail the seas forever. For three official LPs and a smattering of other releases, the San Francisco space-rock band have rode on relentless, gut-level doom drones that loop on into the never. This acoustic performance of "These Shadows", a song pulled from their new LP, Back To Land, (out November 12 via Thrill Jockey) sounds like it was recorded while their ship (Shijp?) was in port at an island in the sun. Without the giant speaker cabinets and fuzz pedals, "These Shadows" sounds a lot like a Neil Young campfire jam, as well as one of the most melodic voyages the band has ever embarked upon.
