Chicago Flotation Device have a seemingly nonsensical approach to cataloguing their tracks and scant available information beyond a London locale, so the given assumption would point to a brand of loosely defined techno shrouded in mist, mirroring the facelessness of its creators. Not so: "Untitled 11" is an out-and-out belter, six minutes of gleefully unrefined noise that revels in a purist vision of incisive, punishing dancefloor material. Hi-hats resemble clattering dustbin lids fed through a decaying tape reel, the enormous low end is almost comically blown out, dark pads ominously pan across channels while a squelching 303 rides roughshod over the unfaltering cacophony below. On "Untitled 11", CFD forego breaking new ground, instead priding themselves on stomping the blueprint deep into the dirt. The results are uncomplicated, mucky fun.
