One good thing about the relentless online self-promotion of entry-level rap producers is that no one has to waste time wondering where a beat came from, no matter how minor. In the case of "Too Cool", a track that originally appeared on undersung Chicago rapper King Louie's April mixtape Chiraq Drillinois, a half-second YouTube comment scan points us to a member of the no-profile Hustle Squad Productions. His beat here is worth far more than his 1,000-some Twitter followers would imply, its arcade-parlor twitch matching Louie's steady, lyrical flow in subtle bounce and seamless turnover. So "Too Cool" is both a mesmerizing cut primed for repeat play during late-night car rides through any city and a best-case scenario for hopefully trolling producers and unsigned rappers everywhere.
