Psychedelic music certainly isn't known for its sure-footedness; things can quickly get warbled, washy, or hazy. Still, there's usually one constant tucked beneath the heady din—a central hook, an unwavering beat. Destruction Unit are great at this, masters of staying focused on one central melody while bombarding the song with tape effects and odd sonic tics. On "Dust", they've got a hook with the beefy, unwavering drive of a Motörhead track.-=-=-=-

And then a cyclone of noise threatens to overthrow the primary melody entirely. They've established a persistent, burly punk song, but it's periodically engulfed by chaos. Occasionally, something in the mix sounds like gale-force winds whipping past a buzzsaw. A thematically appropriate (and very obvious) analogy for the Arizona outfit's Adult Swim single: It's got the unpredictable, obliterating power of a dust storm.
