The opening seconds of Spectral Park's "L'appel du Vide"  are reminiscent of the descending trickle that kicks off Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti's Before Today cut "L'estat (Acc. to the Widow's Maid)".  The two songs also share a tape-damaged production value and a clear admiration for 1960s rock; on "L'appel du Vide", though, Southampton multi-instrumentalist Luke Donovan explores more menacing territory via labelmates like Soldiers of Fortune and the Vacant Lots, creating a guitar-pop maelstrom that sounds as if it's about to burst into flames. Spectral Park's self-titled debut LP is out January 29 via Mexican Summer.
