Popstrangers' 2013 debut Antipodes carried a certain degree of civic pride: its title is a nod to how the northern hemisphere refers to their home continent, and the New Zealand band ensuring its mostly 90s alt-indie compendium was footnoted by key names in Kiwi rock (the Chills, the Clean, etc.). A year later, they sure don't seem as civic-minded on "Country Kills", the first single from their sophomore bow Fortuna. There's a distinctly British accent to the sharp guitar chords in the verse, as well as the see-sawing strings. Judging from the hook, the trio aren't long for the same comparisons that accompanied nearly every mention of Antipodes: "My country will kill me now."
