The started-from-the-bottom conceit of Ab-Soul's “Dub Sac” is one of the most tired in rap right now, but Ab is safe because he’s one of our strangest rappers, generally allergic to clichés. He's in vintage form here, as he references past material (“I ain’t got no gavel”), quickly establishes his bearings (“You don’t know me, Soulo so low-key”), and ends lines with rhymes few others would come up with. Tae Beast and Dave Free’s astronomic production reinforces the next-dimension feel, while the refrain, one of Black Hippy’s stickiest this side of “Swimming Pools (Drank)”, could also propel Ab to a whole ‘nother realm.
