With his new song "Nibiru," Ab-Soul continues to set himself apart as the nerdiest and most cerebral of the Black Hippy crew. He raps the song from the perspective of the titular planet-sized object, a mass that several conspiracy theorists, and zero scientists, believe is on the path to destroy Earth sometime in the 21st century. It is a profoundly silly concept, the kind of thing rap fans pillory Nas, Lupe Fiasco, or Canibus for attempting. But Ab makes it work: he playfully uses the asteroid as a metaphor for his power as a rapper and the minimal cosmic-trails beat suspends the song in the right medium.
