About a month ago, our own Carrie Battan suggested that Edinburgh-based electronic producer  Unicorn Kid's teardown beats would make a good backdrop to Rihanna's raves. Now, he's given the warehouse mix treatment to Darwin Deez's "Free", off the Brooklyn project's forthcoming LP Songs for Imaginative People (due February 12 via Lucky Number). Unicorn Kid deconstructs the original power pop engine and builds it up, beat by beat, into a shiny new model. He pares the lyrics down into simple repetition of Deez's "'Cause I'm free, yeah" against synthesizers squealing to dreamy climaxes that, like the producer's spirit animal, might be too good to be true.
