As a pair, the Underachievers seemed relatively inactive in the months following February's Indigoism, MCs Issa Dash and AK usually found premiering tripped-out solo material instead. But this Thursday the New New York first-stringers return with a Lex Luger-produced EP, The Lords of Flatbush. On opener "Leaving Scraps", the self-assured philosopher Issa reminds us of his keen third eye ("My generation needs solvin'/ 'Bout to take 'em up, we evolvin'") before the less excitable AK bursts out of the gate and vows "we finna game-change" upon Lords' release. Luger's instrumental, meanwhile, favors the candy-apple gloss of something like Big K.R.I.T.'s "Money on the Floor" rather than the thunder of his own vastly influential trap-rap classics. Here's a wheezing, serviceable introduction, though at just two minutes long it's just a hint at everything these three wunderkinds have to offer.
