"Sshh...here it comes." That's King Tuff's fair warning in "Dancing on You", the opening track on his debut LP Was Dead. It opens the album with a slow burn-- some quiet chords, some Eastern-sounding strings, and a persistent drumbeat. The track never devolves into an all-out party freakout or anything-- Kyle Thomas keeps the full power in his power pop masterwork close to chest until later on. As the album progresses, he veers toward bubblegum melodies and more psychedelic imagery. But this is where he has to start-- some power chords and a solid guitar solo to get us warmed up.

According to Thomas, this song is the reason why the Was Dead reissue was pushed back to May 28: "Unfortunately the release date for the Was Dead reissue has been pushed back due to problems at the manufacturing plant. Employees at the plant were found with their clothes torn off and twigs in their hair, listening to 'Dancing On You' and performing primitive love rituals instead of making records. Sorry for the delay."
