There was no evidence Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy, the two L.A. producers who make up DJDS (formerly DJ Dodger Stadium) were gunning for a big-tent dance song, so “Trees on Fire” is a surprise home run from the duo. It’s a song that you can plug-and-play in any location: it’s easy to imagine it spilling out of speakers from a festival set or humming inside of a car idling in traffic. Like Disclosure before them, DJDS make perfectly calibrated, crossover dance songs that move as efficiently as a perpetual motion machine. Young R&B singers Amber Mark and Jeremih-soundalike Marco McKinnins’ winsome vocals are processed and looped and modified carefully, while the sundrenched percussion and clean melodies make everything light and energetic. “Trees on Fire” is a gregarious dance tune that should fight for radioplay.
