It's been nine months since rapper Jayaire Woods was on the road in support of his Quality Control Music labelmate Lil Yachty. “Big,” the opener from his recent Big Wood the EP, finds him taking stock of where he's been and where he's going. Woods, who is from the Chicago suburb of Bellwood, presents himself as a man confident enough to stand tall when he raps, “I never had a gang to rep boy/ Never needed me a set boy.” But he’s also plagued with occasional doubt, ashe confesses later: “Sometimes I be feeling fuck this shit/ And start to worry about the feedback.” Like any good album opener, "Big," is theatrical, but also gets to the point. He yields substantial space to producer Canis Major P with an expansive yet tense instrumental of looping synth and strained guitar. Woods effectively captures the mood of his production, squeezing several flows into a two minute span. His sincerity compels listeners to follow along the journey through Big Wood and beyond.
