"Run", Jim-E Stack's latest track, is less a full-out sprint than it is a steady jog. Thwacking drums set the pace, evoking the cyclical tumble of Baltimore club music. Once the track has worked up a sweat, it really takes off—you might even call it hypnotic if it wasn't dead set on keeping you on your toes. It sticks and moves, launching well-placed flurries of chopped vocals and then pulling back to regroup before circling back around to rattle off more shots. But the spotlight always remains on the skittering rhythms and bruising lower frequencies that form the track's irregular heartbeat, and this focus should prevent "Run" from an existence merely as connective tissue in DJ sets.
