Alexander Spit's "Eleanor 60" is the L.A. loner at his most Dilla-esque; the song, a reminiscence and a love letter to California, is warmer than anything off of his bleak and clammy A Breathtaking Trip To That Otherside. He still raps like someone actively fighting mold allergies, but the beat is relaxed, a bleary sun ray of synth pads, muted drum hits and a hiccuping chipmunk vocal sample. Although he's not a mind-blowing presence as a rapper, he's an adept producer, one who surrounds his monotone voice with a swirl of small sounds: There's a running-faucet sound in the back of the track that my ear keeps trying to follow, some smacking lips. "Eleanor 60" is more a smudge of texture than a song, but it is inviting and provides a keyhole peek into his next project, Dillinger, which is set to drop on November 12.
