Acid, blues, breakbeats, dub, Krautrock: Richard Fearless made room for all of those elements and more in Death in Vegas, a nominally electronic group with an unusual relationship to the British dance music scene of the 1990s and 2000s—part gadfly, part bloodsucker. He's far more focused in his latest solo release for his Drone label, "Gamma Ray", which takes a page from Omar S's "Psychotic Photosynthesis" and hones in on pinging synthesizer counterpoints that scatter like water droplets in a greased skillet. It's a fine track, but the Dutch producer Legowelt's remix is the one that really counts here. He takes Fearless' hissing drums and pancaked flatness and blows it all wide open, a 2D grid suddenly spun into some kind of aqueous multiverse whose dimensions shift with every beat, regal synths and muted drums. Its acid melodies bob and weave, like so many strands of tide-tossed seaweed.-=-=-=-
