Jangly guitar-pop tends to invoke an air of timelessness, if only because of its ability to seamlessly connect distinct eras and genres within a matter of minutes. "Even the Blind," the lead single from Wild Peace, the debut album by South London's Echo Lake, is a perfect example. Inside five minutes, the pair folds together the charming dissonance of mid-1990s indie rock, the romantic whorl of late-80s shoegaze, and the lo-fi atmosphere of a band recording songs in the comfort of their home. The song is anchored by singer Linda Jarvis' spindly vocal melodies as the band threatens to overcome her angelic chants with driving rhythms and crystalline guitar strums.
