When Saints Go Machine has a creatively slippery, always changing approach to music, a variety in artful electronic pop experimentation that never quite gets pegged down. Their last album, 2011's Konkylie, showed a connection with everything from Arthur Russell and Antony’s dance music guest turns to These New Puritans’ stateliness and Planningtorock’s melting of conventional approaches-- and that still doesn’t cover it all. So it makes sense that the first single from the forthcoming Infinity Pool defies expectations again. Curiously, Killer Mike plays the lead performer here, riding the blend of beats and soft tones with commanding ease. But then vocalist Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild brings his sweet voice to the break, almost a guest on his band’s work for once but providing the key central anchor nonetheless.
