The latest single from Autodrama

The clouds may have parted, but it’s not all sunshine for siblings Piper and Skylar Kaplan. In April, the L.A. synth pop duo released “Tell Me,” the first single from their upcoming sophomore LP, Autodrama—it emerged from the muggy atmospherics of their earlier work, befitting a recent Madonna cover. The next single from Autodrama, “Peccavi,” is no less melodic or yearning, but it’s more melancholic, more obscure. The title phrase is Latin for “I have sinned.” “I’m always on my own/All alone and crying,” the Kaplans declare, amid finely sculpted sorrow. When the duo repeat, “That’s what I get,” clutching to romantic beliefs, it’s as if they’re drifting toward the bottom of the pool. The fog has lifted, but “Peccavi” is relatable because clarity remains a distant dream.
