To describe Ann Arbor-based producer Atu's music as “R&B influenced” doesn't give it enough credit. There's a warmth and vivacity reminiscent of neo-soul that runs through his Pictures in Silence EP. "Way I Feel" is a tribute to these genres, filtered through an ear for the contemporary sounds of future bass. The soft, layered humming and vocal samples channel the intimacy and romanticism of performers such as Kem or Maxwell, and similar to those artists, Atu’s music is best at its simplest. "The way I feel" is the only decipherable lyric of the song, and Atu slips the phrase in between bass drops and percussive breakdowns like an intimate whisper. The force it carries can be felt in an instant.
