Copenhagen kraut-pop group Pinkunoizu just recently released a gorgeous record called The Drop, and "Necromancer", an album highlight, opens on a small blinking LED panel of synthesizer drones—a heart-beating little octave surrounded by scalar runs. It's a comforting and lulling whir, the way a car's digital dashboard looks from the backseat through half-closed eyelids. From there, the song swells into an overwhelming wall of synthesizers, all set to maximum "New Age chemical face peel", before gently and firmly applying gas pedal pressure: The patter of some bongos, a pealing guitar solo, even more synthesizers—by the time the song has crested, you have been nearly lifted bodily by your headphones.
