There’s always a pensive feel to Real Estate's music, even when they're working toward sweetly melodic pop like the cheery-sounding "It's Real", the first song released from their forthcoming LP Days. Fellow album cut "Green Aisles" shows how their reflective side is further revealed through their slower material. While "It’s Real" mirrored the upbeat thrum of the Go-Betweens and the Feelies, "Green Aisles" sounds more like when Orange Juice took their own exuberant sound down a notch on "In a Nutshell". The songwriting skills of all those acts is reflected here-- both in the lyrics, which take a somber look back on more innocent times, and in the song's cottony guitar lines that spin throughout. The dreamily nostalgic feel of "Green Aisles" is firmly rooted in a sentimental spot, which Real Estate are skilled at cleaving open.
