AS SFV Acid, California-based prodcuer Zane Lowe has made a career out of producing songs that deconstruct the genres they're contained in. "Ashland Slumber" could be described as a traditional house track, but it's a bit more complicated than that. The drum machine sounds like it was recovered from a dumpster before being Frankenstein'ed into a blown out hulking mess of stomping electronics-- and then there's the goopy synth that oozes over the top of the whole song. "Ashland Slumber" feels earthy, like an aural snapshot of a bunch of weeded-out kids bumming around hiking trails, figuring out how to make electronic music sound as organic as possible.
