Ethan McCarthy has been challenging grindcore complacency in Denver's Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire by, simply, being more pissed off than his competition. With his new group Primitive Man, he bathes his vitriol in codeine. "Rags" is the second track from Scorn, which was self-released earlier this year but will see a wider reissue from Relapse on August 20. It's an apt summation of the band's intent, which is to grind you down while taking their sweet time doing so. McCarthy's vocals become death cries in slow motion, lending to a morbid netherworld feeling not unlike DJ Screw-- and keep in mind, this is a "fast one".
