London's Cloud Boat have been making lush, dreamy electronic music for a little while now, although they're anything but prolific-- it's been over a year since their debut single, a deep and hazy number called "Lions on the Beach" that appeared on R&S' 2011 compilation IOTDXI. The duo's new single, "I Left For a Reason (It Escapes Me Now)", carries a satisfying richness. Sam Rickett's hypnotic guitar drifts between prettiness and intensity, while Tom Clarke matches the uneasy drama with a yearning vocal: "The river fell away, and washed me down". The precarious momentum is slippery until it pools, unexpectedly, in the form of a gorgeous coda.
