Brooklyn duo Widowspeak certainly seem to be trading in the understated smoke-folk they crafted on their self-titled debut for something a bit bigger and shinier, as we've heard on new album cuts "The Dark Age" and "Ballad of the Golden Hour". They're also hinting at theatricality on the new record: "Thick as Thieves" pivots around a noirish, almost kitschy accordian line that sounds like it was ripped out of a carnival located in some Western ghost town.

The duo's new album Almanac is out on January 22 through Captured Tracks.
