Chicago instrumental trio Russian Circles have done quite well over the years by deftly combining metal's heaviness with post-rock's sense of scope, and "1777" is the latest example of that perfect mix, a seven-and-a-half minute stretcher that pushes and pulls with glowing tension. Like "Deficit" before it, "1777" is from Memorial, Russian Circles' fifth album, and it's out October 29 via Sargent House.
