Like the most memorable collabs, “No Wave” is greater than the sum of its parts: It’s a riotous one-off single from the Maryland rapper IDK and the Florida rapper Denzel Curry, two artists with unusually complimentary styles. IDK has a rounded tone that sounds best over smoother beats, while Curry is a machine gun in human form, his half-shouted raps leaving your ears ringing.

The beat of “No Wave,” constructed by the producer Razjah, is a symphony of foreboding, horror-film pianos and menacing trap drums. IDK brings his talent for smoky, sing-along choruses (see last year’s “OMW”) and stretches his typically tame flow to inhale Razjah’s instrumental, switching midway into a doubletime assault. But the song is shocked to life by Curry, whose verse is one of 2018’s most brazen so far: “Thurgood Marshall artist/If you try to hit a foul like Artemis,” he snarls to begin, before unleashing 16 bars of venomous, punch-line driven wordplay that critiques the recent H&M clothing scandal and name-drops Spartacus. “No Wave” is pure jet fuel, a fiery showing from two young rappers ready for the spotlight.
