Brooklyn artist Lorely Rodriguez departs from her established sound on her new single “Realize You”, her first piece of work as Empress Of since making her official debut earlier this year with the Systems EP. Setting aside her earlier work's dreamy pop sensibilities and smooth croons, Rodriguez instead focuses on a dance-heavy sound that bubbles more than it glides. “Realize You” features funky synth beats, syncopated drums, and discontented lyrics.  Rodriguez flips line after line (“Have you been you with you lately?/ Because you haven’t been you with me") on this single, suggesting that Rodriguez is veering away from calming art-pop and heading towards buzzing, tweaked synths.
