Bay Area sextet Whirr features guitarist Nick Bassett of "post-black metal" band Deafheaven. There are textural overlaps here, and a ton of guitars, but instead of Deafheaven's floor-punching anthemics, you get lush, dreamy noise-pop with intertwining male/female vocals.  The overall sound-- patient, spacious, loud, colorful-- is comparable to Swirlies, Velocity Girl, or some other small DIY American group you'd call "smeary" or "shoegaze" and attempt to link to Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine in the 1990s. "Home Is Where My Head Is" appears on Whirr's debut LP, Pipe Dreams, out March 13 on Tee Pee.
