First appearing as a snippet on King Remembered in Time, the release of the full-length single version of “Just Last Week” arrives just in time to sneak into late-summer party rotation. Big K.R.I.T. has so often figured in as the rare self-conscious Southern rapper that when he does boast of his spendthrift hankerings here (“I did it big in the club last night but a nigga goin’ hard today”), it’s more endearing than redundant. The self-produced chrome-carousel beat is a proper backdrop, then, while the screwed-up vocals halfway through function as homage to the 27-year-old K.R.I.T.’s plebeian Mississippi beginnings. On the hook, Atlanta’s Auto-Tune prince Future delivers again, warbling almost as forcefully as he did on Ace Hood’s “Bugatti”.
