Phil Elverum's stripped down, Auto-Tuned reincarnation of Mount Eerie's Clear Moon track “Lone Bell”, from the forthcoming Pre-Human Ideas (out November 12 via P.W. Elverum & Sun), reinvents the booming song into something more vocal-centric, shrouded by hauntingly distorted sound. The song feels less like a sprawling cosmic adventure than the original, instead falling into a languidly contained flow. “Mid day, in the light, quiet echoes of a freezing moon/ Distant bell, cold and clear,” Elverum proclaims, the lyrics taking on a new meaning and carrying a chilling weight.
