London producer Airhead's spacious, abstract compositions are reminiscent of James Blake's early work, and the comparison runs more than skin-deep: before the former even released a single solo track to his name, the pair put out a solid 10" single in 2010 on Brainmath, Pembroke. "Wait", the A-side to Airhead's just-released debut single on R&S, picks off where Pembroke left off. The single takes a familiar vocal sample and dismantles it, dropping robust acoustic guitar figures and frizzled electronic noise in the resulting empty space. The results unspool beautifully, proof that Airhead can do this thing by himself as well as when he's collaborating with others.
