Mister Saturday Night, that venerated dance party that roves through South Brooklyn most summers, has primarily drawn on local talent—but for their latest single, they've tapped Dublin-based producer and Opal Tapes affiliate Gareth Smyth. Another twist, though: Smyth spent last summer soaking up NYC, oft-times manning the merch table during MSN’s now-legendary outdoor dance parties along the banks of the Gowanus Canal. “Yacht Cruiser” clocks in at a rather Balearic 106 BPM, but Smyth makes the ride slightly woozy, using swishing hi-hats and queasy synth washes to destabilize the throbbing bass and slo-mo vocals. If it does bring such a seaworthy vessel to mind, it floats in the fetid waters of that superfund status site.
