Trumpeter/composer Jon Hassell is a touchstone for artists as diverse as Brian Eno and Ricardo Villalobos, the figure who connects the dots between Terry Riley’s "In C" (having performed on that minimalist classic) and Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin’s hallucinatory Techno Animal. Come June, Hassell’s long out-of-print City: Works of Fiction will get reissued into a 3-CD set (out June 2nd in the UK and June 3rd in the U.S.), including a live concert from 1989 and a disc of new remixes. The first remix comes from Warp artist patten, who whiplashes Andy Stott-like noises about the stereo field, pacing the track with closed hi-hats that blur into static and back.
