Featuring frequent collaborator Muisq Soulchild and the legendary rapper Posdnuos, this standout from the jazz pianist’s latest album is an intimate ode to love.

Robert Glasper has cornered the market on hip-hop and jazz fusion since the release of his 2012 solo breakout project Black Radio. As a jazz pianist and producer, he has an understanding of these two genres that has intrigued rappers and jazz mainstays alike. Glasper’s latest project, Black Radio III, is no exception to this rule, featuring one of his most intuitive mashups yet in “Everybody Love.”

The song begins with the familiar velvety croon of frequent collaborator Musiq Soulchild. He sings about love in a celestial sense, detailing a desire for “two rare collections of matter, space, and time.” Though its pleasant vibe is reminiscent of “Ah Yeah,” their 2012 intimate slow jam, this track is faster and looser—its swirling digitized vocals flit over its plush keys. Crowd chants and a different set of keys glide in when De La Soul rapper Posdnuos takes over, making reference to Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing while adding some esoteric thoughts of his own: “If your head’s not in compliance/Your heart is religion and your head is the science/But there’s still more room for pleasing both sides.” Love is a path Glasper has traveled often in the past, but it’s never sounded as spacious or star-flecked as it does here.
