From the Body and Full of Hell’s second collaborative album, Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light

On their collaborative debut One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache, metal duo the Body and hardcore band Full of Hell presented a nightmarish tableau replete with stabbing riffs, piercing wails, fragmented power electronics, and ever-present static. A little over a year after that outing, the two groups now turn their focus to genre experimentation, with “Earth Is a Cage,” the first single from upcoming album, Ascending A Mountain of Heavy Light.

It’s an industrial rock ripper that finds Full of Hell at the forefront. The Body frontman Chip King adds to their fearsome sound with his distant, muffled screams, which evoke the cries of a man being buried alive. Together, the bands are characteristically unsettling, and yet, the song is surprisingly spare, with just a single drum machine populating its desolate wasteland. It’s a rare show of restraint from two of the underground’s most pulverizing groups. When the Body and Full of Hell pull back, they somehow hit even hit harder.
