If you had concerns about whether the release of mbv would send nascent shoegaze bands into hiding, "Always Lie" should allay your fears. Like Kevin Shields before them, San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain are putting out a self-released LP after a relatively lengthy hiatus and the first single from Sway (which will come out later this year on Travis Trevisan's own nineteen98 imprint) is likewise a veritable walkthrough of Trevisan's board of effects pedals.  While bisected by Trevisan's bleary, downcast vocals, "Always Lie" gives ample space for his guitars to express themselves in far more extroverted ways, alternately grinding, churning and nearly levitating over the span of five and a half minutes.
