I bet Twin Shadow looks good on the dancefloor. It's been a setting for a number of George Lewis, Jr.'s seductions ("I Can't Wait", "When We're Dancing") and the modesty of indie rock never suited his peacocking synth-pop project. But Twin Shadow's never made proper dance music until "Old Love/New Love", a one-off single for Grand Theft Auto V. It's a clean break from the 1980s genre excursions Lewis has favored in the past-- New Romantic pop, "Black Cat"-style R&B-metal-- though "Old Love/New Love" proves Lewis is a nostalgic at heart, embracing a hi-NRG, early-'90s ideal of dance-pop. Not surprisingly, these gleaming piano vamps suit Lewis' direct, heatseaking lyricism.
